Jump Height Lab; Quiz tomorrow

Today, the students had to design a way to calculate their jump height using only a timer. The lab instructions are here. We then answered questions about the Turd the Target 2 assignment and went over yesterday's quiz.

Test review and remediation worksheet

Today, we reviewed Friday's test. We went over how to answer each question and how to better our scores by marking on the test, writing givens, and highlighting important words. I also spoke to the class about how to be successful in physics. Last minute preparation simply will not produce the desired results - instead steady hard work produces the results.

I also discussed the nature of remediation in this course. Students will take a remediation quiz on Thursday. This is an extra credit assignment and is meant to allow students to take what they did not fully understand before and become better at it.

Homework: Complete the remediation worksheet before Thursday.

One-time makeup opportunity

This email was sent to all parents

While our long-term goal for your students is to foster growth and learning, we understand that the beginning of a year can be a time in which students are settling in to new responsibilities and adjusting to the expectations of new teachers in new classes. Thus, as a one-time policy, students who are missing daily grades from the month of August, may turn that missing work in for 50% credit (assuming directions are followed, the work is complete, and the effort put into the work is evident). This policy will be in effect until Wednesday September 5th. After the 5th, we will return to our standard work policy which can be found in the syllabus

You, the student, may turn in any missing daily work or homework for 50% credit on Wednesday the 5th at the beginning of your class. Nothing will be accepted before or after that point in time. All work will still be graded for effort and attention to instructions. Any deductions made from this work will be further deducted from the 50% credit that is allowable in the first place, so if you redo work, redo it correctly. This is a one-time opportunity and represents our desire to give you a better start into the rest of the class. However, no further opportunities of this type should be expected. You are expected to check the blog nightly and complete homework on a regular basis.
